For this week’s special episode, we are throwing it back to four more past podcast guests – focusing specifically on athletes and sportspeople. Let’s hear from these fan-favorite outperformers on the unique traits that have helped them be successful in their different areas, and what advice they would give now, looking back on their journeys.
Here are some highlights of their conversations with host, Brad Eisenhuth:

Martin Karafilis

Martin is currently the CEO  of Fishburners, which is the largest community of tech start-up players in Australia. But if we look back, Martin has been competing in high-performance sports from early on in his life and it is now a way Martin stays fit and healthy. He is involved with a range of sports such as Golf, AFL, Strength and Conditioning and Basketball whilst continuing to be a regular at the gym and pool.. Martin has a unique view that people who play sports are taught discipline, and that can be a really important trait of high performers. Performance-driven mentalities - like we so often see from people who play sports, can be a game changer when it comes to business.

Brad and Martin discuss how you can hire an absolute gun programmer or engineer. But if you don't have those interpersonal skills or the ability to actually lead and the ability to have that discipline, make those big calls, you're just never going to be successful in what you do.

Belinda Clark

Belinda Clark, a former cricketer and sports administrator, discussed the challenges of goal-setting in a business context. She highlighted the difficulty of measuring progress and the importance of setting clear goals and lead indicators. Belinda emphasized the need for a learning culture within organizations, where constant evaluation and adaptation are encouraged. She also stressed the significance of aligning goals and fostering open communication to ensure everyone is working towards a common objective.

Trevor Hendy

Trevor Hendy, a six-time Australian Open Ironman champion, shared his personal journey of self-discovery and growth. He discussed the power dynamics that come with success and the need to reconcile one's shadow side. Trevor emphasized the importance of shifting consciousness and recognizing the motivations behind our actions. He highlighted the significance of feeling and healing past pain to become our true selves and find fulfillment.

Rhiannan Iffland

Rhiannan Iffland, a six-time Red Bull cliff diving champion, offered valuable insights on pursuing success and enjoying the journey. She emphasized the importance of perseverance and learning from setbacks. Rhiannon encouraged aspiring athletes to focus on the process rather than solely on the end result. She also highlighted the significance of being known as a good sport and enjoying what you do, rather than solely chasing medals and titles.

These athletes and sports people have provided valuable lessons on discipline, goal-setting, self-discovery, and enjoying the journey. Their experiences and insights can inspire individuals in any field to strive for excellence, embrace challenges, and find fulfillment in their pursuits.

Remember, success is not just about achieving external milestones, but also about personal growth, resilience, and enjoying the process along the way.
