Trevor talks about his upbringing starting with his travels around Australia with his family, spending time with Indigenous Australians and going on trips with his dad which he explains as ‘”Rights of passage to becoming your own person”. These experiences being a journey about connecting to country became a realisation for Hendy when he was older.
In his time competing in Ironman competitions, Trevor says he had a ‘Win at all costs’ mentality, with the costs equal to being socially unattractive to the competitors who were also his mates, who he sought admiration from. It took a while for Trevor to reconcile the costs of winning from the win itself to become the true version of himself.
Trevor reflects on his journey with the belief that that every subject has a full spectrum to it. Like a rainbow, even the colours furthest apart are close together at some point and this is the way Trevor views his life experience.
“We’re having a lot of fun, but actually some of that fun was hiding certain things, I was cutting corners and cutting other people off… and as you go all the way around it, it keeps revealing the light and the dark of it…I look back at it, like wow what a fascinating experience to understand what power can feel like at a certain level of awareness…. I hurt a lot of people with that power….”
“Pausing leads to stillness and stillness is who we are” Trevor says when discussing with Brad the importance of slowing down to make progress. It allows a mind shift to understanding the situation at hand. A reflection of an Einstein saying similar to “The same mind can’t solve a problem from which it was created”.
In this segment, Trevor explains that there is two types of black sheep in business.
When talking about one of his life coach programs he wrote – Bootcamp For The Soul, Trevor says “You get exactly the conditions you need, including the pain and suffering…the occasional wins and losses.. to go through awareness changes and shifts, to realise at a greater level who you really are”.
Every thought has a life force behind it. Trevor explains that in the book ‘The Power of Now’ by Ekhart Tolle, there is an ideal that behind every through process there is an energy attached to it. The initial thought turns into a train of thoughts and the thought become the person.
Hendy believes that everything happens for a reason. Even the disasters and challenges in life lead to an ‘ah ha’ moment when you realise the reason or the lesson learnt from overcoming events and challenges in your life.
Another mantra that Trevor believes in personal and professionally when coaching his clients.
According to Hendy, happiness is an illusion and joy is a better thing to aim for in life as it’s an actual state of being in the moment. When you’re enjoying a moment the external environment can change but the feeling of enjoyment stays within. Happiness occurs when all external factors in the moment need to stay the same for the moment to last.
Trevor refers to the mind as the ‘fourth dimension’ referring to the idea that you can point to the brain physically but the mind itself can’t be touched and works in duality, categorising each thought into two groups i.e. right or wrong, hot or cold, rich or poor etc.
Upon reflecting on his time trying to fight his view points to be validated, Trevor says he got to a point when he realised, that his viewpoints weren’t actually accurate or correct but that they were all he was left alone with. These moments led him to start asking more from people as to what their journeys have been to lead them to their viewpoints now.
