On this week’s episode of Real Talk With Outperformers, Brad welcomes Jahin Tanvir. Jahin is co-founder and CEO of the Australian School of Entrepreneurship, Australia's largest innovation provider.
Jahin is a 3-time TEDx speaker, board director, and was named on the 40 under 40 Most Influential Asian-Australians for 2022, at the age of 21-years-old.


Jahin’s Journey to ASE

Jahin founded his first company, Breathe, at the age of 21-years-old, which was an EdTech social enterprise providing public speaking education in the form of workshops and machine learning to young people from marginalized communities around Australia. In 6 months, Breathe. impacted over 16,000 individuals.

Shortly after, Breathe was acquired by the ASE Group in November 2022, and Jahin was appointed the new CEO of The Australian School of Entrepreneurship. The ASE has impacted over 180,000 people across Australia and the globe, with no signs of slowing down.


Embrace opportunities for growth

Embrace opportunities for growth is a powerful message that resonates throughout Jahin's story. His journey from starting a social enterprise focused on public speaking education to becoming the CEO of the ASE group is a testament to the power of seizing opportunities for personal and professional development.

Jahin's willingness to put himself out there, to post on social media every day, and to engage with like-minded individuals ultimately led to the acquisition of his company by the ASE group. This bold approach to networking and collaboration highlights the importance of being open to new possibilities and embracing challenges as opportunities for growth.

Jahin and Brad talk about the importance of self-reflection and taking risks in pursuit of growth. By asking himself the question, "Would 80-year-old me regret this if I said no?", Jahin was able to make a bold decision at a young age that has shaped his trajectory as a leader and entrepreneur. This willingness to take risks, to step outside of his comfort zone, and to embrace new opportunities has been key in Jahin's personal and professional growth.


The Power of Over-communicating

Jahin and Brad discuss how effective communication is essential in building trust within any organization. Jahin shares his experience of learning the importance of over-communicating to establish trust with his team members, especially in a virtual work environment. He acknowledges that his initial struggles stemmed from his reluctance to over-communicate due to his private nature. However, he realized that in order to effectively lead and manage his team, he needed to adapt and prioritize transparent and frequent communication.

By over-communicating, Jahin was able to bridge the gap created by physical distance and virtual interactions. He understood that in the absence of face-to-face interactions, clear and consistent communication was essential to ensure that his team members understood his expectations, tasks, and goals. Through over-communication, Jahin was able to provide clarity, direction, and support to his team, ultimately fostering a sense of trust and accountability among team members.


Life skills education for empowerment

The Australian School for Entrepreneurship aims to empower young Australians through life skills education by providing workshops, programs, and events focused on areas such as public speaking, financial literacy, and emotional intelligence.

One of the key aspects of Jahin's work is the emphasis on partnership and collaboration. By working with schools, universities, corporations, sports teams, and government bodies, Jahin and his team are able to reach a wide audience and make a meaningful impact on the lives of thousands of individuals each year. Through partnerships with government agencies, such as the WA government and the Queensland government, the Australian School of Entrepreneurship is able to leverage government funding to address pressing issues and empower young Australians to create positive change in their communities.

Through ASE programs, 16-year-old student Anisha, went on to start her own business and become a lead facilitator at the ASE. Anisha's journey from a program participant to an entrepreneur and mentor showcases how education can empower individuals to realize their potential, regardless of their academic achievements.


Seek mentorship in all areas

Jahin emphasizes the value of having mentors for various aspects of life, including career, mindset, fitness, and cultural aspects. By surrounding oneself with mentors who can provide guidance, support, and advice, individuals can navigate challenges, make informed decisions, and achieve personal and professional success.

Mentorship is portrayed as a two-way framework, where individuals not only receive guidance but also give back by sharing their knowledge and experiences with others. The speaker mentions a program at the Australian School of Entrepreneurship where young people are paired with mentors to help them learn and grow. This highlights the idea that mentorship is a reciprocal relationship, where both parties benefit from the exchange of knowledge and support.
